MY LIFE EXPERIENCE
My Life So Far...
My life has been a mixture of great successes and great difficulties. But it has always been interesting!
I was born in Zambia to Nigerian parents, both medical academics. My family moved back to Nigeria when I was two, and I spent my childhood there.
There were trips abroad, lots of fun and laughter and music, and a strong focus on education. I studied at the University of Nigeria, then took my medical degree at the University of Papua New Guinea.
My first job was in a hospital on the beautiful island of Samoa, where I married my husband, who I'd met back at Uni in Nigeria. Shortly after we relocated to the UK we agreed that I should take a career break to start a family. My wonderful son Davy was born in 2000.
It was a career break of sorts -- but I certainly didn't stop working! While Davy slept, I studied for the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) exam, which is a computer networking qualification.
It was great but never quite satisfied me. I knew I had a flair for personal development, motivating others and self-help and for putting together inspirational material - and I wanted to do more with that… specifically to help women.
How could I work that into motherhood and a career? First, I found a coach to help steer me in the right direction. It was a significant turning point. It gave me the confidence to study for a Diploma in Performance Coaching and to establish a business as a Life Coach.
I used the internet to build my practice, writing newsletters and articles that supported and helped women. Within six months, I had an international client list from four continents, many of whom I am still in contact with now.
Just as my coaching business was getting under way, I was offered the chance to teach at a new international medical school in London. I thoroughly enjoyed teaching -- not only that, I realised I was good at it!
The experience fired me up to return to medical practice, and right now, with Davy now 8 years old, I am half-way through a 4-year GP Specialty Training Program. I will be a fully qualified GP in 2011.
