How To Decide What You Really Want.
Dr Kem Thompson
The human brain is designed to seek out and
achieve set tasks. At any given time, your
brain is successfully doing what it was created
to do: hit the targets you've set for it,
whether knowingly or not.
That's why it's very important for you to always
be clear on what you want out of life. If you're not
clear on the instructions you're giving your brain,
it's obeying instructions from somewhere.
Ever felt disorganized and scattered?
Notice how lack of focus in life leaves you feeling
like your energy is dissipated? How, having no
set, definite aim or direction robs your life
of fun and oomph?
That's because you weren't created to operate
that way. You can only achieve your highest level
and quality of life if you direct your life the
way you're meant to do.
Everyday, every moment, your brain is receiving
input from your senses, which influence your thoughts,
which are the instructions or commands the mind sets
about to achieve.
The way to turn things around in your favour then,
is to become clear about the things you really want.
This means you've got to take responsibility for
the outcomes in your life, rather than seeking to blame
outside influences (people, circumstances, etc).
When you take responsibility for the outcomes in your
life, you position yourself in a place of power and
potential victory. The victory is only potential until
you continue in the path you've started.
This means that deciding what you want is just the first
step to getting it. It is a very important step though.
After all, you've got to learn to walk before you can
learn to run.
So first, decide what you want in each area of your life,
then take responsibility for making it happen. Don't seek
to blame anything or anyone outside of yourself, for you
cannot change anything outside of yourself.
What you do have the power to change is your thoughts,
words and actions.
Sure, things will not always go the way you intend or
the way you wish, but you have the power to respond
to those things in a way that leaves you in control.
It all starts with you knowing what you really want. I cannot emphasize this enough.
A Powerful Little Exercise to help you
Think about the answers to these questions:-
What do you really want...
- In your marriage/long-term relationship
- In your career/business
- In your social life
- In your health status
- In your spiritual life
- In your relationship with other family members?
To help make things even clearer, let's rephrase the stem
question this way:
Describe your ideal...
- marriage/long-term relationship
- career/business
- social life
- health status
- spiritual life
- relationship with other family members?
Take your time to think about this, for in describing the
ideal situation, you are creating 'The Big Picture' of your
life. Knowing what this picture is, will guide your choices
and decisions as you work towards putting the pieces of
the puzzle together, to make up that Big Picture.
Write down the answers you come up with. You can rewrite
the answers until you come up with the ones you feel most
at peace with.

The beauty of this exercise becomes apparent when you realize
that what you have just described is *well within your reach*!,
and the only obstacle that can prevent you from achieving it
is found inside of you. Your own limiting beliefs are your
main obstacles. So get over them and focus on the Big Picture.
Decide today to begin directing your brain and your mind to
steer you towards the attainment of your desired outcome. Put
your imagination to good use - that's what it's there for: to
help you design the 'blueprint' of your ideal life.
Remember, if you don't know what you really want, your life is
following someone elses' blueprint!
